The Lure of Lake Bled

Lake Bled is a stunning glacial lake in Slovenia, shaped by tectonic forces and the retreat of the Bohinj glacier. A large rock, worn down by the ice, became the island we see today. The lake, up to 30 metres deep, is home to 19 fish species, swans, ducks, and lush vegetation. On the east side, natural thermal springs keep the water above 20°C and are used in nearby hotels, offering healing benefits. In summer, the lake warms to 25°C, while in winter it can freeze. According to legend, fairies once danced on a hill in the valley before flooding it to form the lake. Visitors can walk the 6 km path around the lake, ride in a traditional pletna boat, swim, skate in winter, or simply enjoy the scenic views. The island with its church, the surrounding mountains, and charming sunsets make Lake Bled a truly magical place
