The Colourful Villages of Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre is a group of five villages on Italy’s northwest coast: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. These villages, with their brightly painted houses, sit on steep cliffs above the blue sea. Narrow streets lead to small harbours, cafés, and shops. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site and national park, the area is carefully protected. There are no big roads, so visitors travel by train, boat, or on foot.

Each village has something special. Monterosso has the biggest beach, while Vernazza is known for its harbour. Corniglia, higher up, is surrounded by vineyards. Manarola is famous for its stunning cliffside views, and Riomaggiorehas dramatic rocky shores. Walking the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail) is a great way to explore them all, with amazing sea views along the way.
