Japan's Iconic Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest mountain at 3,776 metres, is a perfectly shaped volcano and one of the country’s most famous landmarks. It’s an active volcano, last erupting in 1707, and is visible from Tokyo and Yokohama on clear days. A great way to see it is from the Tokaido Shinkansen train between Tokyo and Osaka – sit on the right side for the best view near Shin-Fuji Station. However, the mountain is often hidden by clouds, especially in summer, so visibility is better in colder months and early in the day. For scenic views, visit the Fuji Five Lakes area or Hakone, a hot spring resort nearby. Mount Fuji is open for climbing in July and August
